Zebup Studio

Legacy system modernization, without downtime

Zebup is a Montreal studio that modernizes systems that carry revenue: we pull the critical components out one at a time, without stopping production, and every step is reversible.

Who it's for

Applications where every change costs more

Your application works, but each change takes longer than the last, and deployments are scary.

Systems nobody dares to touch

The rules contradict each other, the person who knew them has left, and there are no tests to tell you whether you are breaking something.

Companies that cannot stop

The system carries revenue every day. A full rewrite, with its overnight cutover, is a risk you do not want to take.

What we deliver

FIG. 04 Monolith in production New service
  • An audit as the way in We read the code, find what carries the revenue and hand you a step-by-step plan, with what to extract first.
  • Gradual extraction Critical components leave the monolith one at a time, validated on real traffic before we move to the next.
  • Reversible steps At every step, going back is possible. The risk stays small and known.
  • Tests where there were none We describe the current behavior with tests before changing it, so the new component does the same thing, only better.
  • A clean handover Readable, documented code that your team, or another provider, can pick up.

How it works

  1. Meeting

A free first conversation, in person in Montreal or by video call. We take in your need clearly and tell you what we think, even if the answer is no.

  2. Analysis and quote

A written scope, a fixed price for the first batch and a schedule. You know what you are buying before you commit.

  3. Batch production

Short, regular deliveries, documented and tested code, and a clean handover to your team whenever you want it.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to rewrite everything?

Almost never. On a system that carries revenue, a full rewrite is almost always the wrong call. What works is gradual extraction, reversible at every step, validated on real traffic.

Can you modernize without stopping production?

Yes, that is the whole approach. The new component runs next to the old one, checks its results on real traffic, then takes over. If something is wrong, we go back to the old one.

Where do you start?

With an audit: understanding what the system does, what carries the revenue and what is expensive to change. You leave with a step-by-step plan, useful even if you decide to have it done elsewhere.

What if there are no tests at all?

That is common. We introduce tests where there were none, starting with the components to extract, to describe the current behavior before touching it.

Our application uses an old technology. Is that a problem?

Not in itself. We first look at what is costly or blocking, not at the age of the technology. What comes next is chosen to fit your problem.
